The Department congratulates the class of 2025 for making us proud. We are proud as a department for being part of the journey. 8-4-4 has served its purpose and it has come to an end. We welcomed an educational system 2-6-6-3 with the first group of grade 10 students reporting to Utumishi Boys Academy Senior school. There has been a paradigm shift since learners are supposed to know what they want to be from inception. Learners are supposed to choose 3 subjects from their career Pathways. Mathematics (CORE AND ESSENTIAL), ENGLISH, KISWAHILI AND COMMUNITY SERVICE LEARNING remain compulsory for learners.
Additionally, all learners will learn ICT skills and physical education (PE). Due to this great changes the department has greatly assisted learners in selecting subjects depending on their careers and strengths. Our office which is well equipped and always open has been of great service to the grade 10 learners in that exercise. Career pathways are divided into 3 namely, Stem pathway, Art and sports science, and social science.
It is important to note that it is compulsory for learners interested in stem courses to take CORE mathematics. Essential mathematics is completely for learners whose careers demand mathematics. These learners are free and allowed to choose CORE maths. If you do more than 2 science subjects CORE Maths must be done. Examples of subject combinations and career field (but not limited to this)

The career and mentorship department helps learners to achieve their goals. Through guidance learners get to choose their careers wisely. This has helped them improve immensely in their academics. A learner who studies with a purpose of achieving a goal gives a satisfactory meaning of education to a learner. We are proud to be part of their journey. Every Tuesday during class meeting learner have been receiving piece of guidance from the department through the class teachers. We appreciate their efforts on this.
The department is also in consistent communication with KUUCPS to inform the learners on any trend in the university entry. We have also invited several institutions of higher learning in our school to talk and motivate learners. Through these learners get exposed to career choices and consult highly on life in campus.
I want to thank all members of this great department who have gone beyond in assisting our learners. Also special thanks to our Chief Principal Dr Maina for providing a robust environment of working to this great department. May god bless Utumishi Academy.
